Age Of Embers Interview

Image
"The world needs less songs about anger and more songs about drinking beer with dragons".   Age Of Embers is a tremendously talented female fronted New England based band. So rare to find a band of this caliber in my own backyard. They took some time to answer a few questions. Enjoy! Tell us about rehearsals Right now we rehearse once a week, usually on a weeknight. Practices are in a small apartment, sitting on a couch. We rarely get the chance to practice live, and it’s always with an electric drum kit. Really low-budget. Take us through the writing process? Does everyone contribute? We usually start with Katrina writing the lyrics and vocal melodies or other parts. Then the rest of the band fills in their parts around her arrangement and song structure. Most of us write our own parts for most of the songs. There are exceptions when someone gets creative, however. Do you make money at gigs/how do you generate income? We ma

TRAGUL interview

Image
Tragul is one of the best up and coming bands I have heard so far this year. I sent some questions to Adrian Benegas Hello Bryan Martin from Cry of the Wolf! This is Adrian from Tragul. It’s a pleasure to do this interview. Take us through the writing process. Does everyone contribute? All starts with a rough lyrics idea, a concept about something I want to express. Usually I take inspiration from events that comes from dreams, esoteric field or an event taken from a spiritual approach. Once I have the lyrics ready, I start to write the music and focus myself on expressing the concept in the best possible way, then I listen the whole idea and the lyrics and start to make some arrangements and refine everything before I send the songs to the guys who contribute on the arrangements for their instruments. How do you feel about social media and its influence over the music business? I think social media is a powerful tool to stay constantly connected with the fans, you can

New Zone Interview

Image
New Zone Interview  Cry Of The Wolf Magazine had the opportunity to interview one of the hottest up and coming bands in the alternative symphonic metal genre. This band is doing everything right. Read on to see how a modern day metal band takes charge of its own destiny. Our prediction is that you will be hearing a lot from this band very soon. Take us through your writing process. Is it a jam style progression or are the parts already worked out? When we begin writing our songs we often start from a melody that naturally comes to mind. The original melody than develops new ones. By this time we will be able to hear the chords and even rhythms from the rock ensemble in our heads. The location we are in or emotions we have will affect what direction the song will go towards. When we both get the same images in our heads and find the message of the song it will naturally come together. We will then record a demo that later on becomes a pre-production of the songs. Some songs so

Interview with Sari H Wilholm for BRANDS FOR FANS, creator Motorhead whisky

Image
Recently Rock and Metal bands have been busy producing or endorsing wine and beers produced in their names. The most famous company for producing this type of branding is BRANDS FOR FANS, a Swedish based company with a taste for marketing and rock and roll. Both Sari Wilholm and Yvonne Wener are dedicated to bringing these fantastic metal flavors to the world.  I decided to ask Sari  Wilholm about her work with metal bands and in particular the legendary MOTORHEAD. 1.       Thank you for taking the time to do this No problem, our pleasure! 2.       How did the business idea come about? Most of my life I have been involved in music, one way or another. Had my own smaller festivals, booked gigs for bands, saw clothes to the bands and did what ever to help out. When Brands For Fans came to life: We both (me and Yvonne Wener) come from the traditional wine industry, working with traditional brands (Jack Daniel´s, Fernet etc), and both being “fans” to different bands we

SAXON----THUNDERBOLT Feb 2nd, 2018 silver lining music

Image
Saxon has delivered yet another finely tuned heavy metal masterpiece. Produced by Andy Sneap for Silver Lining Music Thunderbolt is the 22nd album by the metal icons, and they show no signs of slowing down. Songs like "Speed Merchants", and " Sniper", are some of their finest works to date. But it is on the soon to be classic hits, "Thunderbolt", and "They played rock and roll", that Saxon once again define themselves; as the permanent kings of the NWOBHM movement that spawned them all those years ago.      " They played rock and roll"is a fitting sonic tribute to the great Lemmy and Motorhead. The enduring mutual affection by both bands is hailed throughout the song. Mutual respect for other artists can sometimes be fleeting in the business and yet Saxon have remained pure to a higher standard.        They are the esteemed gentlemen of heavy metal. But make no mistake there is still fierce power and energy that spi

Cry Of The Wolf Magazine interviews Tony (the metal duke) and Al from the band IRON WILL

Cry Of The Wolf Magazine interviews Tony (the metal duke) and Al from the band IRON WILL      For those of you not familiar with the heavy metal sounds of IRON WILL, we present to you their latest offering "Life is your Labyrinth". And yes it took 18 years to complete.Rivaling the mighty Guns And Roses in album downtime. That being said you will not find a more metal dedicated character as Tony. From videos on their face book page it is clear that he lives and breathes heavy metal. I hear a lot of old school metal influences with IRON WILL. They are like a cross between ANVIL and early IRON MAIDEN with Paul Dianno. The music just has this old school headbanging feel to it. There is a lot of heart and soul burned into their collective sound. Can you give us a brief history of the band?                Al - My brother Eli were channel surfing on a Saturday morning back in 1997, I think, and we just happened to catch Tony on public access TV singing with his old band, S

Jim Florentine Everybody is awful (except you) Da Capo Press

Jim Florentine Everybody is awful (except you) Jim Florentine will forever be known to the metal community as "That metal show guy". But this book shows an illustrious career that spans acting,dj work, Hbo, That metal show, sirius xm radio dj, and even...driver for strippers. Emmy award winning Florentine is a modern comedic genius. He is the "Heaven and Hell" version of comedy to reference Sabbath.  The book takes us through his life interspersed with his clever and comedic insights on everything from facebook posts to language usage. Florentine's book is chock full of great quips and pokes at modern social media soaked society. This is a great book and and an easy read. Step inside the snarky, rant filled brain of Mr Florentine and enjoy the ride. 9/10 wolf Howls CRY OF THE WOLF MAGAZINE Da Capo Press
